Ontario County Public Health

Sept 2019 Staff

Ontario County Public Health works at the local level to prevent illness and promote health among the residents of Ontario County. This is accomplished in collaboration with community partners, the New York State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The efforts of the local health department may not be readily recognizable. They are often carried out behind the scenes, without much fanfare. Public Health touches lives in the purity of the water you drink, the vaccines your child gets for school, the safety of your food, and even your ability to cope with disasters and pandemics.

Here is what the New York State Department of Health says about local public health workers:

At the heart of all successful public health initiatives are the workers who promote and protect the public's health and safety. In addition to addressing everyday public health needs, the public health workers face a number of emerging and complex health issues such as the increase in obesity, managing vaccine supplies, disparities in health outcomes, and emergency preparedness...

In the face of these challenges, local health department professionals work every day to ensure the safety and health of our communities.

The field of public health draws from the skills, experience, and talents of a variety of healthcare professionals. In Ontario County we are fortunate to have a highly experienced and dedicated group of Public Health Nurses, Educators, and Support Staff who coordinate the following programs:
