Annual Herbicide Spraying Program

Each year, Ontario County performs two types of vegetation control: Herbicide spraying under guide rails and around signposts along County roads and invasive species spraying to combat Japanese Knotweed within the right-of-way.

Please see the information below pertaining to each type of vegetation control.

Mapping

The Department of Public Works has created an interactive online mapping application to illustrate the vegetation control data.  This mapping application shows:
1.) County delineated 'No Spray Zones'.  Herbicide is sprayed under guide rails and around signposts annually on all county roads unless a request is made by a constituent.  Therefore, the interactive map only illustrates zones which are not sprayed annually, and;
2.) Locations of all known Japanese Knotweed.  The Knotweed locations are updated each year depending on whether new areas are found or old areas have permanently died off.

The mapping application can be viewed here: Mapping Application

Static .pdf maps can be viewed through the application by clicking on linear zones or delineator points.
