Inclusive Design Recommendations for Ontario Beach and Deep Run Parks
In Spring of 2021, Ontario County Highway Department installed an accessible path and human powered boat launch at Ontario Beach Park. The launch allows all users stability when entering and exiting their boats. Other planned inclusive design projects include converting existing restrooms to two accessible family restrooms and installing a deck system and accessible fishing pier with seating. Similar projects to increase the accessibility of Deep Run Park and its swimming area are also proposed.
Active Transportation Plans for Gorham/Canandaigua SR 364/CR 11 and Honeoye Hamlet
Ontario County partnered with NYS and local municipalities in 2020 and 2021 on these plans to improve walkability and bike-ability of these areas. Plans outline on-road and off-road improvements in each location to create more comfortable bicycle and pedestrian facilities. Recommendations include shoulder, roadway, and sidewalk inmprovement, intersection modifications and new crosswalks, and tactical elements such as temporary or permanent dynamic speed displays.
COVID-19 Response
Ontario County responded quickly to the needs of it residents during the pandemic. Help was provided initially with distributing food boxes, face masks and hand sanitizer. The County Department of Public Health provided drive thru testing and vaccine clinics. In addition, they are sending nurses out to vaccinate home bound individuals. The Office for the Aging helped register about 1500 older adults and disable individuals as well as providing transportation for those that needed it.
Mobility Management
Starting June 1, 2021, Mobility Management will be offered through Ontario NY Connects for residents of all ages. A Mobility Manager provides individualized one to one assistance linking people with transportation options that are right for them. The Mobility Manager also assists residents with filing applications for subsidies they may be eligible for. Call NY Connects at 585-396-4047
The mobility manager will also administer a small scale “brokerage” program using ride hailing services such as UBER and LYFT. The Office for the Aging can subsidize rides for people age 60 or older who have no other means of transportation.
This service is provided through an FTA Section 5310 Grant to Lifespan of Greater Rochester in partnership with the Ontario County Office for the Aging.
A One Click-One Click program is being developed. This is web-based program that enables the mobility manager and the general public to obtain updated mobility options for individual trip requests. This platform would be maintained, updated and used by the mobility manager of the county.
